C-H Activation

The variety of chemical compounds can be mainly traced back to some basic precursors such as Ethane, Ethylene, Propane, Propylene, C4-Olefins, Benzene, Toluene and Xylene. Such precursors are commonly obtained by refining crude oil or gas, which uses 15% and 8% of the world-wide oil and gas consumption respectively. To obtain higher-value chemical products, these organic precursors have to be converted with great efforts to more reactive species, often using halogenation or oxidation reactions. The direct incorporation of the basic precursors in chemical production processes yielding final chemical products is currently a major challenge. If there are new and innovative catalysts developed for this purpose, significant opportunities for companies of the chemical industry will arise to increase their competitive capabilities.

With our unique methods at CreativeQuantum, such development of new and innovative catalysts is notably facilitated. Our methods allow for the analysis of every reaction stage, disentangled from all other stages and isolated from surrounding effects, thus enabling the understanding of the processes at the molecular level. For the design of catalysts, we are able to investigate selective modifications to catalytic species in order to stabilize the preferred products and to destabilize unwanted side-products. In combination with virtual high-throughput screenings, we offer the possibility to identify promising candidates for catalysts, even prior to their expensive experimental evaluation in the laboratory. Consequently, research and development in this field can be performed in a more cost-efficient way.

If you would like to benefit from the research methodologies of CreativeQuantum in a flexible way, we can provide the know-how and the equipment to realize stand-alone research topics (simulation service) and complex integrated research projects (contract research).
